Tennis bags come in a variety of designs including covers, backpacks, totes, multi-racquet bags and travel bags. No matter what kind of player you are or what kind of lifestyle you have, you can probably find a tennis racquet bag well-suited for your needs. Since most racquets can be expensive, a bag that protects them from damage is a wise investment.
Styles of Tennis Racquet Bags
Racquet Covers
Racquet Covers hold only one racquet, and usually come with the racquet when purchased. Some come with padding to better protect the racquet.
Multi-Racquet Bags
These tennis bags resemble the common duffle bag, except they hold tennis racquets so that the entire body of the racquet fits inside the bag. Many of them come with compartments that protect racquets from heat and/or moisture damage. Compartments to store clothing and personal items like keys, wallets and cell phones are common features. Many come with straps that allow you to carry the bag like a backpack.
Multi-racquet bags typically come in the following sizes:
3 packs – room for up to three racquets. One main compartment
6 packs – room for up to six racquets. Two main compartments.
9-15 packs – room from 9 to 15 racquets. Three main compartments.
Travel Tennis Bags
Travel bags hold up to 12 racquets and are similar in design to luggage, with handles and wheels that make them suitable for carrying through airports.
Backpacks and Totes
Tennis backpacks and tote bags typically have room for up to two racquets stored with the handles exposed. They also have room for books, clothing and other accessories. Many of the tennis racquet bags in this category are stylishly designed for fashion conscious women. Some even come with an additional accessories bag for cosmetics and accessories.
A Word to the Wise About Racquet Capacity
Be sure to pay close attention to what a bag actually has room for. For example, many bags that advertise a capacity of six racquets often have room for just the six racquets and not much else. In this situation, it may be better to get a bag that holds nine or 12 racquets so that you have room for clothing, shoes, water bottles and anything else you decide to bring with you in addition to your racquets.
