The Bryan Brothers: Grandmasters of Tennis Doubles

It’s tough to come up with enough superlatives to describe the talents and accomplishments of Bob and Mike Bryan, the grandmasters of tennis doubles. The Bryan Brothers combined to win a record 16 Grand Slam men’s tennis doubles championships and record 112 professional doubles tournaments overall. The most weeks ranked #1 (440 plus for both men), most Davis Cup doubles wins (23), most consecutive Grand Slam Finals (7), most prize money, an Olympic Gold Medal, and on and on and on. They even have several mixed doubles Grand Slam championships playing the best women players. Mike and Bob Bryan have single-handily (or is it double-handily?) transformed and raised the profile of professional tennis doubles.

Non-Profit Seeks to Make Tennis Backboards More Easily Available

Many campaigns have been launched in the name of improving diet and fitness in recent years. A few years ago, the National Football League started the Play 60 campaign encouraging children to be active at least 60 minutes a day in an effort to prevent child obesity. Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop founded Shape Up America in 1994 to address obesity. Many other organizations dedicated to health and fitness like these were created to promote and educate the public about fitness and more healthy lifestyles. One of the more unusual ones, Project Tennis Backboard, seeks to make tennis backboards more available to the public.

Yes Folks, Venus Williams Is Human.

Venus Williams proved over the weekend that she is human. After withdrawing from last year’s US Open, Venus announced that she suffers from Sjögren’s Syndrome. There is little known about this autoimmune disease but fatigue and joint pain are usually associated with it. Many people afflicted by Sjögren Syndrome visit a back specialist to help bring relief to persistent pain. According to the Mayo Clinic, Sjögren’s disease is extremely rare, affecting only about 1% of the population. Women are more affected by the disease than men, and most aren’t diagnosed until middle age.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 2012 Olympic Feat

France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga just won the longest match in Olympic history with a 6-3, 3-6, 25-23 win over Canadian Nilos Raonic. The 66 game match took three hours and 56 minutes, breaking the previous Olympic record of 48 games when Chilean Fernando Gonzalez defeated American Taylor Dent in Athens in 2004, 6-4, 2-6, 16-14 to win the bronze medal in men's singles.
