Question: How did you get into Tennis?
August 2nd, 2011
Answer:
As the owner of a tennis shop, people often ask me how I got started in tennis. It isn't a grand story, but one that many can probably relate to.
I started playing tennis when I was 6 years old. Both my parents played for fun and my brother and I would watch them play. After they were done, we would get on the court and hit a few balls.
We would play at the local high school tennis courts. They were only about 5 minutes from the house and were pretty well maintained.
In fear of dating myself, the top Americans at the time were John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors. I loved watching them play because they were so intense and competitive. Although McEnroe is more known for his temper, Connors was as fiery on the court as McEnroe. They would battle against each other or have epic matches against Bjorn Borg and Ivan Lendl.
That is just one part of my story, and I'm sticking to it.
