Athletes and Proper Nutrition
November 18th, 2011
As I grabbed my new Head YouTek tennis racquet to meet my girlfriend at the court, I suddenly remembered the recent information I had come across regarding improving one’s general athletic performance via proper nutrition. So I decided to make a quick stop at the local farmer’s market.
Physical activity requires a sufficient amount of Calcium and Vitamin D. Vitamin supplements are an option, but according to the American Dietetic Association, Dietitians of Canada and the American College of Sports Medicine, most athletes should consume a variety of foods such as yogurt, milk, cheese and egg yolk. Calcium and Vitamin D help to grow, maintain and repair bone tissue but always check to confirm the product has been fortified with Vitamin D. Deficiency of these vitamins may increase the chance for stress fractures and low bone mineral density. Vitamin B is also crucial for maximizing health performance. This vitamin is found in milk, leafy green vegetables and meats.
I recalled this information as I strolled through the local farmer’s market. I stopped at one of the booths which sold various types of cheese. I put down my handbag and my Head YouTek tennis racquet, and taste-tested a few samples. One kind nearly melted in my mouth so after my purchase I proceeded and bought some organic green lettuce and some dried peas and beans. What was originally planned as a quick stop lasted a good hour. I was late to my practice session but I felt better knowing I had taken action to give myself the necessary nutrition for performance enhancement and overall good health. Combine proper nutrition and the Head YouTek tennis racquet and play like a champion.
