Adidas Tennis Shoes and Parley | Turning Threats into Threads
December 28th, 2018 by Do It Tennis
Adidas and Parley are collaborating together, intercepting plastic from beaches and coastal communities before it reaches our ocean. They then use that plastic to create quality activewear including Adidas tennis shoes and other apparel.
What Is Parley
What is Parley? According to the organization’s website, “Parley is the space where creators, thinkers, and leaders come together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of our oceans and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction.”
The Problem
It is no secret that mankind creates a significant amount of trash everyday. Over recent years it has come to light just how much waste we have created and the potential threats that waste causes. According to seastewards.org, “An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash-most of it plastic -is dumped in the world’s oceans every year.” Americans alone create 10.5 million tons of plastic waste each year, but recycle only 1-2% of it. Those numbers are pretty shocking.
The Solution
On the bright side, many organizations like Parley and companies like Adidas have come together to make a difference; creating products that actually use this “trash” and repurpose it into high quality sportswear.
