- |
The Junior Tennis Racquet + Bag + Ball Bundles have been selected for kids below the age of 12 to get them the correct junior tennis gear. Each bundle includes an entry level junior tennis racquet, bag and tennis balls. Bundles are available with racquet bags or backpacks depending on the brand and style. Racquets can be purchased in several lengths.
Introducing tennis to young starter players in the right way is critical. As well as helping players to develop a range of physical skills, the appropriately sized tennis racquet allow children more control over their movements. This will not only help in the development of their tennis game but also make it easier and more enjoyable for them to play. Since younger children have a tendency to bang their racquets into poles and fences, moms and dads will be happy to learn that many less expensive junior racquets are made of a very durable titanium alloy material.
Here are a few facts that can assist you in purchasing the right junior racquet:
Age, current height, grip and racquet weight are all factors involved in selecting the right tennis equipment for a junior player. However, age and height are the most important as the grips and racquet weights are set by the racquet size.
- 17 inch junior racquets are for children of age 2 and under who are around 80cm tall.
- 19 inch junior racquets are for children between ages of 2 and 3 of height ranging between 35.5 to 39.5 in (85 to 100 cm).
- 21 inch junior racquets are for children between ages of 3 and 5 of height ranging between 37.5 to 45.0 in (95 to 115 cm).
- 23 inch junior racquets are for children between ages of 5 and 7 of height ranging between 42 to 49 in (105 to 125 cm).
- 25 inch junior racquets are for children between ages of 7 and 9 of height ranging between 45 to 53 in (115 to 135 cm). If the child is 9 years old, but turning 10 within a couple of months, we recommend that you look at a 25 or 26-inch racquet. The child can always hold the grip a little higher up on the racquet until he/she is developed enough to use the whole 25 or 26 inches.
- 26 inch junior racquets are generally for kids ages 10-12, who have played tennis for a few years or are able to handle swinging a longer racquet.
- If the junior player is above the age of 12, we recommend that you look at purchasing an adult racquet ranging in length between 27 - 27.25 inches.
Notes:
- Please remember to purchase a racquet that your child will not outgrow in 6 months. If the child is 9 years old, but turning 10 within a couple of months, we recommend that you look at a 25 or 26-inch racquet. The child can always hold the grip a little higher up on the racquet until he/she is developed enough to use the whole 25 or 26 inches.
- Each junior racquet only has one grip size (as opposed to adult racquets that have 5-6 sizes); however, each racquet in a bundle has several racquet lengths to choose from. These grip sizes are based on the age of the child and the size of their hand at that age.
- The weight of a junior racquet can range from 6 oz. to 9.5 oz. The heavier racquets tend to be for older the children, and lighter racquets tend to be for younger children.
