Junior Tennis Racquets Are Professional Equivalents

Looking for the perfect junior tennis racquet? Today’s junior tennis racquets are constructed from the same superior, high-tech materials as professional racquets used by top players around the world. Junior tennis racquets, including Prince and Wilson junior tennis racquets, are designed to encourage optimum court performance by young athletes.

Selecting the Best Junior Tennis Racquet for Junior Players

Junior tennis racquets must have the correct length, grip size, and weight in order for a young player to learn how to properly play the game, and to not get discouraged due to discomfort on the court.

The Best Tennis Racquet Length

The most important element of a good tennis racquet is the correct frame length. A junior tennis racquet has the proper length if the racquet reaches to the youth’s ankle when hanging from their hand, but doesn’t touch the ground.

Use the following racquet length and age chart to determine a general size, and adjust measurements accordingly.

Age and Recommended Tennis Racquet Length

• 0-4: 19”

• 4-5: 21” • 6-7: 23”

• 8-10: 25”

• 10-12: 26”

• 12 and older: Adult size (27”-32”)

A junior should use as long a racquet as they can handle. Smaller racquets encourage too much wrist and elbow action, which can discourage learning proper serves, strokes, and impede proper arm muscle development.

The Best Tennis Racquet Grip Size

The average grip size of a junior racquet is 4 inches; the circumference of the grip. To check your child’s grip size, measure from the middle fold in their palm to the tip of their ring finger.

The Best Tennis Racquet Weight

As the weight of junior tennis racquets vary, this simple two-step exercise can help determine the most comfortable racquet weight for your junior player.

1. Have the junior hold the racquet behind their back—so that the racquet tip touches their lower back, and their elbow is in the air.

2. Have them raise the racquet overhead slowly, as if they’re serving. If this movement is strenuous, the racquet is too heavy.

Wilson junior tennis racquets incorporate Double X Technology. This super light, titanium alloy construction can help junior players of all skill levels excel.
